Why Tyrese Gibson Is Threatening To Quit The Fast And Furious Franchise

The actor has made an ultimatum that could upset Fast and Furious fans everywhere.

Tyrese Gibson has threatened to quit the Fast and Furious franchise if co-star Dwayne Johnson remains a part of the films.

The actor took to Twitter to issue the ultimatum telling telling “loyal fans and loved ones from OUR Fast universe” that he won’t appear in Fast 9 if the Rock returned.

“I’m sorry to announce that if [Dwayne] is in Fast 9, there will no more Roman [Pearce]. You mess with family and my daughters survival I mess with yours,” he wrote alongside a photo of himself with Johnson and co-star Vin Diesel.

So why is Gibson threatening to leave the highly lucrative franchise? The actor is in the midst of a tricky custody battle with his ex-wife over their daughter, meaning emotions are likely to be running high.

Gibson previously spoke out against Johnson after the the release date of Fast and the Furious 9 was pushed back a year. Studio bosses decided to delay the movie to make way for a spin-off starring Johnson’s character alongside Jason Statham.

Gibson previously posted a series of comments on Instagram aimed squarely at The Rock:

“Diversity, love, multi ethnic worldwide multi generational, United Nations, One Race, Fast Family…… Until Dwayne showed up I guess this whole time he had a problem cause he wasn’t the ONLY ONE on the movie poster,” he wrote in one.

“I guess dreams do come true congratulations to @hhgarcia41 and @therock you guys are just amazing you really broke up the #FastFamily I tried to warn you guys… You thought I was hating… I was simply fighting to keep the family together what makes us great is when you see us all TOGETHER we don’t fly solo…..

“#MyLastPost today… I got 3 years of venting on this clown – They offered but YOU didn’t have to agree with a solo #HobbsMovie #OriginalFastFamily we salute you and stand on your shoulders #VinDisel #PaulWalker #RobCohen #RomanTej were offered a spin off we TURNED IT DOWN!”

The comments followed similar criticisms from Johnson in the months leading up to the release of The Fate And The Furious in which the Rock labelled some of his male co-stars “candy a**es” in a message supposedly aimed at Vin Diesel.

But are any of these beefs real or part of some sophisticated, covert social media marketing ploy designed to keep the Fast and Furious franchise in the news? It’s working either way.
